Welcome to Reading the Bible 2022!

This week we put Balaam, a real Bible villain, in the spotlight showing that the Lord would not allow him to curse Israel, but driven by financial gain he continued to work against Israel with the king of Moab. READ THE BIBLE IN 2022 - 6 March - 12 March (Deuteronomy 21 - Joshua 8). This week covenant continues to be a key word in Deuteronomy, and we see God transfers Moses' leadership to Joshua. Click here to read more.
READ THE BIBLE IN 2022 - 13 March - 19 March (Joshua 9 - Judges 5). This week we observe the importance of inheritance for the people of God. For the most part, Hebrews entering the Promised Land thought of their inheritance as their "portion of the LORD." Today we realize that all of God's promises are fulfilled in Christ and at His Second Coming our reward of heaven is the real Promised Land. Click here to read more.
READ THE BIBLE IN 2022 - 20 March - 26 March (Judges 6 - Ruth). This week a key word in the Bible text is eyes, which is used in the key verses of Judges 17:6 and 21:25. Samson's eyes also come to mind, because the Philistines captured him and gouged out his eyes. Click here to read more.
READ THE BIBLE IN 2022 - 27 March - 2 April (1 Samuel 1 - 24). Transition and rebellion are two overarching themes this week. God has been using judges to help guide Israel, but they want a king. Click here to read more.
READ THE BIBLE IN 2022 - 3 April - 9 April (1 Samuel 25 - 2 Samuel 18). Kingdom building and the consequences of sin are two of the themes in this week's readings. After Saul's death, David becomes king. God tells David, "Your throne shall be established forever" (2Sam 7:16). Click here to read more.
READ THE BIBLE IN 2022 - 10 April - 16 April (2 Samuel 19 - 1 Kings 11). Again we see the consequences of sin as King David's sins affected him, his family, and the people he ruled. Click here to read more.
READ THE BIBLE IN 2022 - 17 April - 23 April (1 Kings 12 - 2 Kings 8). In the books of 1 and 2 Kings we see wicked kings are everywhere. In the norther kingdom of Israel, King Ahab and Queen Jezebel are among the worst. God's answer is the prophet Elijah who battles against Baal worship and wins an epic battle against 450 prophets of Baal. Click here to read more.
READ THE BIBLE IN 2022 - 24 April - 30 April (2 Kings 9 - 1 Chronicles 2). Even with so many wicked kings in the northern kingdom of Israel and the southern kingdom of Judah, we see that God will raise up prophets and an occasional good king that gladly serve Him. Moreover, it is clear that God is sovereign in all the earth and causes all nations to serve Him and His higher purpose for mankind. Click here to read more.
READ THE BIBLE IN 2022 - 1 May - 7 May (1 Chronicles 3 through 22). The first 9 chapters present an extensive Bible genealogy. After a brief look at Saul, the focus is God's work in the life of King David.

READ THE BIBLE IN 2022 - 8 May through 14 May (1 Chronicles 23 - 2 Chronicles 17). King David remains the main character in 1 Chronicles. As our reading continues we see how he organizes those that serve in the Temple, as well as other officials. King Solomon is on the throne as 2 Chronicles opens.

READ THE BIBLE IN 2022 - 15 May through 21 May (2 Chronicles 18 - Ezra 3). God puts all people to the test and exposes rebellious, hard hearts, as well as the hearts of those who humble themselves before their maker. We see this theme of testing as we read about the kings of Judah. Three kings, Jehoram, Hezekiah and Zedekiah help to makes this point.
