READ THE BIBLE IN 2022: This past week, May 1 through 7, we read 1 Chronicles 3 through 22. After reading an extensive genealogy of important Bible characters in the first 9 chapters, King Saul’s death is recorded in chapter 10 and much of King David’s reign is detailed throughout the following chapters. Unlike many of the kings that would follow David, “David knew that the LORD had established him as king over Israel, and that his kingdom was highly exalted for the sake of His people Israel” (14:2). Details like the defeat of Israel’s enemies and David’s preparation to build the Temple are recorded here. More importantly, so is God’s covenant with David; the covenant that established David’s dynasty and pointed forward to Christ Jesus from the lineage of David, who now sits on “the throne of His father David” (Luke 1:32). A secondary matter about Solomon also comes to mind. In 1 Kings 11:9 we read “And the LORD was angry with Solomon, because his heart had turned away from the LORD." Many have wondered, “Is Solomon in heaven?” But in the Davidic Covenant God states that He would not remove His love from Solomon as He did with Saul. This week (May 8 - 14) read 1 Chronicles 23 through 2 Chronicles 17.
