Bethesda
At Bethesda, our mission is to enhance the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities through the services that share the good news of Jesus Christ.
We do this by providing homes, services, supports and employment opportunities while providing opportunities to grow in the Christian faith.
Please help us reacquaint the world with who Bethesda is and why our approach to supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities is so important and unique! Each quarter I will provide you with:
I would love to hear from you! Let me know if you’d enjoy a visit from me, or if you’d like a presentation on disability awareness or Bethesda in general. Looking forward to hearing from you!
Serving together in His Name,
Rev. Reuben W. Schmitz Jr.

P.S. Would you be interested in having a speaker from Bethesda present at your congregation, school or church group? We enjoy the opportunity to share the story of Bethesda’s ministry. Contact us at development@mailblc.org to check on staff availability and scheduling.
Who is Bethesda?
Since 1904, Bethesda Lutheran Communities has been an organization whose ministry is dedicated to supporting the physical, emotional, vocational and Christian faith needs of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Although Bethesda does receive some state and government funding for some of our programs, spreading the good news of Jesus is never included in his funding. This is where you come in! The prayers and gifts from congregations empower us to carry out our Christian mission. It allows us to provide Bibles and Christian resources and it gives us the opportunity to provide Ministry Consultants to support 300 locations in 13 states, serving the specific needs of almost 2,000 people with disabilities each day. For more information, visit our website at: http://www.bethesdalutherancommunities.org/.

Bethesda has always focused on the Christian faith. It is our intent to nurture the faith life of people of all abilities. We believe in the importance of all people having a relationship with our Lord and Savior. Bethesda connects people with disabilities to local congregations, creates devotional and instructional materials for leaders, teachers and Bible classes, and supports congregations as they establish ministry programs to include people of all abilities.
Bethesda empowers people to live a full life, making their own choices about the things that matter to them the most. All people should have a say in where they work, play and worship.
