READ THE BIBLE IN 2022: This past week, ending January 29, we read from Exodus 16 through Exodus 35.
A key person in this week’s Bible readings is Moses, who intercedes for Israel and is a foreshadowing of Christ. We got a glimpse of this last week as Moses challenged Pharaoh saying, “Let my people go” (Ex 5:1).  This week we see Moses mediating between God and Israel by introducing the Ten Commandments (Ex 20) and other laws, such as social justice (Ex 22). Moses also stood in the gap between God and Israel with uplifted hands as they battled with Amalek. We read in Exodus 17:11, “Whenever Moses held up his hand, Israel prevailed, and whenever he lowered his hand, Amalek prevailed.” With assistance from Aaron and Hur, Moses’ hands and arms were supported as he lifted them to heaven, and Israel defeated the Amalekites. Later as a type of good shepherd, Moses was willing to die for Israel. After the golden calf incident, Moses offered his own life as atonement for Israel asking God to forgive His people or remove him, not Israel, from God’s book (Ex 32:32). But sinful man cannot atone for other sinners. This week, ending February 5, read Exodus 36 through Leviticus 15.
