Our Savior's Lutheran Church of Chadron, Nebraska believes, teaches and confesses that: The Bible is the inspired and inerrant Word of God, is the only source of truth for Christian faith and life; The Triune God of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is the one, true, living and almighty God; We are strengthened in faith through receiving Baptism, regularly hearing God's Word, and celebrating Holy Communion. These are essential to share God's Grace. Join us this Sunday. Sunday School at 9am. Divine Service at 10am. Communion 1st and 3rd Sunday.

Our calling is to preach and teach the Word of God to all the nations. "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you . . ." (Matthew 28:19)

“The wood upon which He was set adrift under the storming wrath of God He fashions into the ship of our salvation. It is our cross too, but it is not a cross of punishment for us; rather, He makes it the cross of salvation.”

(Murray, 105)

FROM THE MARCH 18, 2020 VOTERS’ ASSEMBLY MEETING

Our Savior’s Ev. Lutheran Church of Chadron, Nebraska is committed to the congregation’s spiritual and physical health. With the current COVID-19 situation we are planning some changes that will keep our members and the community healthy and safe. Today (March 22, 2020) after the Divine Service we will have a short meeting to discuss some changes and safeguards for the upcoming weeks. During this short meeting, we will be asking for your input and giving you some things to think about to help protect yourself and others. Starting Sunday, March 29th Our Savior’s will be offering two Sunday morning Divine Services, one at 9 am and a second at 10:30 am. Midweek Lenten services (March 25 & April 1) will continue. There will be a temporary freeze on all other church activities. No plans have yet been made about Maundy Thursday (April 9) and Good Friday (April 10).  We are attempting to lessen the amount of people in our church at one time.  We are asking all members and visitors of Our Savior’s Lutheran to adhere to the following guidelines:

-Wash your hands often for the length of at least 20 seconds – pray the Lord’s Prayer or sing “Jesus Loves Me” - use a hand sanitizer often and avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.

-Practice Social Distancing while in the community and while at Our Savior’s Lutheran.  Put distance between yourself and others. No handshakes as a greeting.  Spread out in our beautiful pews.

-Cough or sneeze into your elbow.

-Stay home if you are sick with a fever.

As circumstances change, so will our plans. However bleak the times, God is here for us – “God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.’” (Hebrews 13:5)

CORONAVIRUS RESPONSE
March 15, 2020

“God is our refuge and strength,
a very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, . . . The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. . . .
‘Be still, and know that I am God.
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!’
 The Lord of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.”
Psalm 46:1, 2, 7, 10 - 11

General Response
How shall we as Christians respond to the coronavirus? Our response is fact-based and most importantly, FAITH-based. This scary, nasty virus is reminding us how fragile life is, how truly helpless we are as humans, and how much we need and depend on God for health, strength, daily bread, forgiveness, and every blessing.
There is obviously growing anxiety about the coronavirus outbreak. The fears may be spreading faster than the virus at this point. We are living in a new normal as we face the unknown. The growing epidemic has now been labeled a pandemic. People are reacting with fear, humor, uncertainty and anxiety.
As Christians, we can wake up every day and make the sign of the cross knowing we are baptized, beloved, and forgiven children of the Triune God of the universe (the same God Who created us, saved us and lives in us!)  God has us in His loving hands. Yes, we engage in best practices (hand washing, social distancing, canceling certain events, etc.). We also value science and pray for all those in medical and scientific vocations who are battling the coronavirus by developing a vaccine and effective new treatment therapies. Ultimately, we put our trust in our Savior! We face any and all of our fears, sicknesses, and the uncertain future with faith in Jesus.  Repent, be in the Word and pray for the Lord to have mercy.
Church and Worship Related Response
+++We will continue to join together for regular worship.  If that needs to change due to a government recommendation, we will put a notice on our own website and on www.chadrad.com.

+++We will continue to offer God’s gift of the Lord’s Supper as scheduled.

+++Pastor will still be present after the Divine Service to greet you as you exit.  Feel free to use a different exit.  If you decide to greet Pastor, just use a verbal greeting, no hand shaking.

+++As the Center for Disease Control recommends, wash your hands often for 20 seconds.  You may time your washing by singing “Jesus Loves Me” or by praying the Lord’s Prayer.

+++Please stay away from the Divine Service, Bible studies or other church gatherings if you have a fever, feel sick, or have any other symptoms of a cold, flu, coronavirus or other illnesses.

+++Our need for offerings and ongoing support to pay salaries, bills and operate our church will continue.

+++Most importantly, we trust in and pray to God for His Divine help:

Dear God, have mercy on us and help us. As we face the fears and uncertainty of the coronavirus, we ask for and need Your help. We are attacked by many visible and invisible enemies daily - sin, sickness, Satan, doubts, disease, fears, bacteria, viruses, and more. Bless, guide, and grant wisdom to all in vocations responding to the coronavirus - scientists, medical professionals, and governmental leaders. Grant Divine help, hope and healing to the increasing numbers of people who are suffering from the coronavirus. ln Your mercy, please cause this pandemic to pass quickly. Remove our fears, increase our faith in You, and give us Your presence and peace knowing that whether we face times of adversity or prosperity, sickness or health, we are always in the loving and saving hands of Jesus, in Whose name we pray, Amen.

Our true comfort comes from, Jesus, Who assures us in John 14:27:

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you.
Not as the world gives do I give to you.
Let not your hearts be troubled,
neither let them be afraid.
